Biking in Iceland, in the Southern Westfjords is an exciting and wonderful experience.
From Patreksfjörður we drive 60 km to the Látrabjarg cliffs with the bikes. Breath-taking landscape, white sand beaches, the turquoise color of the ocean – the unique characteristics of Southern Westfjords – are all around us. Látrabjarg is the western-most point of Europe, stunning high cliff of 14 km and up to 440 m high, the biggest sea bird colony in the Northern Atlantic. This is the best place in the world to photograph puffins and other sea birds (bird season is from middle of April until middle of August). The rare magnificent grey seals might by lying under the cliffs.
It is a great fun to cycle from Látrabjarg to the Heritage Museum at Hnjótur, in which we learn about people´s lifestyle in the old days, how they rescued foreign fishermen from stranded ships under the Látrabjarg cliffs, and how important Látrabjarg and the sea were in the locals´life.
From Hnjótur we will cycle to Rauðisandur, the Iceland’s´s most famous beach, red colored in a beautiful settings of black cliffs and blue sea. The local guide will take you to incredible viewpoints. The highlights of this tour are intimate encounter with wild nature, stunning landscape, amazing bird life, speed, action and culture.
